How Is Facial Fat Transfer Performed?

Preparation

• A thorough facial examination is performed.
• A personalized plan is created based on the patient’s needs.
• If general anesthesia is planned, medical tests are required. For local anesthesia, no tests are usually needed.

Procedure

Anesthesia: In 99% of my patients, I prefer local anesthesia. The donor area is numbed with an anesthetic injection; the face is numbed with cream and nerve blocks.

Fat Harvesting: Fat is typically collected from the abdomen or thighs through a small 5 mm incision. This process takes about 5–10 minutes.

Incision & Entry Points: The procedure is performed through small needle punctures. No stitches are required and no visible scarring occurs.

Fat Injection: Fat is injected into the required facial areas using very fine cannulas.

Recovery Process

Swelling & Bruising: Swelling or bruising on the face is rare. If bruising occurs, it fades within 5–7 days; swelling usually subsides in 10 days. Mild bruising may appear in the abdomen.

• Avoid makeup for a few days. You may use moisturizers.
• Keep your head elevated in the early days. You can return to work in a few days.
• A check-up is recommended within the first week.

Post-Procedure Care

Sun Protection: Protect your face from the sun.

Medication: Use prescribed medications regularly.

Avoid Intense Exercise: Avoid heavy physical activity for the first few weeks.

Results of Facial Fat Transfer

Facial fat transfer gives a younger and more refreshed look. Results are visible right after the procedure. Some of the fat may be reabsorbed over time. You can achieve better outcomes if you avoid smoking, maintain a healthy diet, and follow your doctor’s advice.
